{Before & After} – dresser turned TV console

Hey everyone!!  I hope your weekend has been fabulous!  Im sad thats it almost over – but, i have some fun stuff in the shop this week and im kinda excited to get back to work in the shop tomorrow – man, i LOVE my job!!!

I have a quick before & after that i found while going through my pics today – and it was a big change so i thought i would share it with ya.  It started as a classic 70’s style dresser…beauty eh’ ???

One thing i def didnt like was the hardware that was on the drawers.  I totally forgot to take pics of what i did, but i removed the hardware and then put a small strip of thin wood down the center and then caulked the seems.  In the after pics you can see that it looks as of there was never hardware there – it gave it a nice seamless look.

Also – i chucked those nasty cabinet doors – wasnt feelin those!

I also had to take off the top and replace it with a new one.  The top was in bad shape and it was laminate.  So i put a new piece of wood on top with some simple trim around the edges to give it a finished look – again no before pic of that – sorry!

I also added some base molding around the bottom to update the dresser and make it look a little more substantial – again no “in progress work” of that either – man, im not doin good on pics here!!  And a piece of molding was added to the middle shelf.

Well, its a good thing it painted up all pretty because the before pics make it look pretty sad!

Here you can see where the hardware holes were covered – looks pretty good huh?!

I really liked the molding around all the drawers – it gave it a traditional feel

Here you can see a close up of the trim that was added around the base

I think this dresser came a long way from what it was!  It turned out pretty good if i say so myself!

The 411

Primer – because some of the pieces were laminate (the sides of the dresser) i used SW adhesion primer 1st and then a coat of SW multi purpose primer tinted dark brown

Paint – SW Gris

Glaze – Minwax stain in Ebony.  I put on straight stain and then wiped it off, for another glazing technique see this post

Clear coat – SW Wood Classics in a gloss finish

Hardware – Hobby Lobby

Distressing Technique – See this post (i used the cabinet scrapers on this one)
