{how to weather new wood}

table weathering 033

> This is a little 411 on how to make some new wood look old – or in my case my old wood look old again. I sanded down my craft table with a palm sander to get all the potential slivers away and i was left with a table that had a “fresh wood” look – well, that was definitely not the look i was after.  I loved how the table looked prior to sanding, and i wanted that same old gray weathered look back.  I decided to sand it down and seal it because i want the top to get even more beat up – i didn’t want glass or anything on top. Before sanding… After sanding…yuk, too new for me :( I did a little google searcharoo and found a few how-to’s to gray wood.  I picked the easiest one and gave it a shot.  One piece […]

{my craproom – i mean craftroom}

craftroom jan 002

> Im lucky enough to have my own craft space (well, i actually have several of my own spaces in this house – my husband doesnt appreciate that very much…more on that later).  But this room WAS a huge mess.  I admit that i am a messy crafter, but really i didnt have time to use this room and it never was really “done” so it just became a space to neatly store chuck all my crap. Before my husband left to Iraq we got the room finished (well, most of the way) and i painted the walls a creamy yellow.  I have no idea what i was thinking with the yellow – so after he left to Iraq, i painted it a light blue – its easier to re-do things when i dont have to explain the “why’s” about re-painting a room that was just painted ;) So, i […]

>{my version of a farmhouse table}

garage and farm table 048

>   Dear Santi (current husband), I have recently fallen for a new fella.  He’s massive, rugged, huge, sturdy, he will support me in all my crafty endeavors – which you currently groan about.  He doesnt mind a little spilled paint,  glitter , fabric thrown about, papers and tools everywhere.  He wont complain when i leave a giant mess on his huge top, he understands me – he knows that i am a messy girl.  We just get each other… I could go on and on about my new love, i could tell you how much i love his big strong wood, but i wouldnt want to make you jealous (and i dont want to lose readers for being nasty!).  Anyways, i am sorry but you must move on so my new fella can move in                                                                                                                                     Sausha   Yup, that’s what i would say – and tonight if  […]

{how i glaze furniture}

bench and hall tree 022

> I get so many questions about how i paint furniture and the tools that i use – so i am going to break it down into a couple of posts.  This post will be about how i glaze furniture – i guess you probably can gather that by the title, but, just in case you didn’t read the title (how dare you) Besides distressing a piece of furniture, this is my most favorite thing to do to bring a little life to a piece.  I do this on a lot of furniture that i paint – because i LOVE the way it looks.  Plus its a style that i really like, but i don’t personally have anything in my house that is glazed – so this is my way to get my “fix” – see what i am saying, did i loose ya?! So, i am totally jumping ahead, […]

{my NEW blog and table for sale} – TABLE IS SOLD!!

table 028

> So…i have been selling my re-finished furniture for a while now, and really i have been so busy with that, that i don’t even post any of it on this blog, i don’t even think that i really talk about it! Things are just in and out, i don’t take the time to take pics. So i started a new blog where i will list all of my furniture that is for sell – plus its a way for my customers to look back at other pieces that i have done (and actually taken pictures of!!). And i finally thought of a name for my “little business”!! I have been thinking about it for months now and just couldn’t decide. I finally came up with the name {sweet pickins}. My brother said it sounds like a fancy name for junk – well, that’s what i LOVE!!! I plan on […]

{vanity re-finish}

vanity and tree 2010 025

> I refinished this vanity just before Christmas for a super sweet client, Ilene.  She was so sweet and was so excited to get this vanity done for her daughters Christmas present.  It turned out great :) **because i know that i will get asked, i don’t know the paint color that i used.  It was a $5 OOPS paint that i got from Lowes – i love this color** Before… After… not the best pics, these were taken @ night I love the white primer and the darker cherry wood coming through when it was distressed – and i cant even say enough how much i love distressing a piece of furniture!  1st -  its not something that you can really mess up on, 2nd – its very relaxing (is that weird?!) and 3rd – it really brings out all the details/lines/curves of the furniture.  I think that most […]

>{entryway dresser – take 3}

christmas 2010 144

> You may remember my post here and here about my previous entry way dressers – well, this is my 3rd attempt – may be the last one….at least for now anyways :) Before… I got this one for free (free, is the best for me!) – and its almost exactly what i was looking for – i kind of wanted something with an open bottom – but this works, plus its less floor that i have to clean :) After… I love the lines of this dresser/buffet – whatever it used to be.  Its very simple and provides lots of storage.  I repainted dresser in Valspar’s “ultra white” – then i replaced the top because it was damaged.  I was planning on doing pine board planks, but then i found these panels @ Lowes – they sell all different sizes and come stain ready – and super cheap – […]
