Refinished antique buffet & updated family room pics

Its me again!!  I just cant keep up with blogging lately – tons of things to post about but just not enough hours in the day!  I hope you follow me on facebook – its much easier to post over there and i normally check in and post a couple times throughout the day. ……………………………………… I picked up the most amazing matching set a couple months ago!  I got both the buffet and the hutch.  At 1st my plans were to paint and sell the buffet and keep the hutch for the basement, but once i got the buffet home i told my husband i just couldn’t get rid of it!  So i made room for it in my family room and its perfect :) As soon as i posted a before pic on facebook, i got tons of crap for saying i was going to paint it.  But, obviously […]

My table re-do with new wood top!!

Oh – you guys, i am SO excited to show you my transformed table!  I love it so much and after wanting to make the change for a couple years, am so glad i finally did it! It was a fairly easy re-do with a big impact, i dont know why i waited so long! Anyways – its done now :) This is the last pic i took of my table.  It was a good decent table that wasnt exactly cheap so i just didnt want to get rid of it, plus i really like the lines of the chairs.  But what i hated so much besides it being black, was the table top.  It had all these lines in it to mimic wood planks and trying to keep it clean (on top of being black) was a nightmare. Plus the black was so heavy and just didnt flow with […]

{Before & After} – dresser turned TV console

{Before & After} – dresser turned TV console

For those of you that didn’t catch my guest post the other day @ I am Momma Hear Me Roar, I wanted to post it here too.  Thanks again Cheri for asking me to guest post – she was off to NYC to be on the Martha Show!  How awesome is that!! My clients dresser wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good either!  It was solid wood and in really good shape so they didn’t want to trash it.  They needed a tv console for their new flat screen and after seeing the one that i posted about here, they decided to have me re-purpose their dresser as well. It started out like any normal dresser, but i needed to reconfigure it a little to be a functional tv console.  I started by taking out the three top drawers and then the middle one in the center.  I just used the jigsaw to remove that middle support between the 2 drawers.  My […]

{Dresser turned TV Console} before & after

Ive had this ordinary dresser in my furniture stash for a few months and finally finished it up a couple days ago – I was so glad to finally get it done and Im lovin’ the way it turned out. My client needed  a TV console, so the top 2 drawers were removed and the middle cabinet door was taken off (sorry, I cant find the pic of the “oh so beautiful gold trimmed drawers and cabinet”, it was gorg – bummer). Once the drawers were removed, I cut some MDF to fit where the top drawers used to be. Then I got some tiny little decorative trim and put that around each drawer opening and the cupboard opening – just to give everything a finished look. Then the dresser was primed and painted “Gris” by SW.  I distressed everything and then used ebony Minwax stain to glaze it – […]

{Work with what the trash man gave ya}

A while back I got this black hutch.  I didn’t really pay too much attention to the condition apparently.  So when someone decided they wanted to buy this cute little hutch, I started to get it ready for paint and it was a mess!! Seriously – this thing had at least 10 different paint colors over the years and someone even at one point decided that they should just paint over stickers that their kids probably stuck on the hutch.  uh huh, they did. So I was going to call my super sweet, most frequent client ever and tell her “no can do on this dresser” – I think it was just too far gone for the look that she was after.  Luckily she changed her mind for another dresser even before I called her – phewww.  I decided to trash the top part and just work with the bottom.  […]

{Gun case turned craft hutch}–before & after

{Gun case turned craft hutch}–before & after

I got this gun case a while back, and gun cases just aren’t my thing…. so I knew right away that it could be modified and repurposed as a cute little craft hutch.  But, it could also be cute in the kitchen, bedroom, anywheres… Before – case is in 2 pieces (luckily for me) And while I was totally diggin the birdies – they had to go.  I took the doors off completely (and trashed them as fast as possible) and then took off the upper gun holder.  I also removed all the felt from the bottom part where the guns would rest – but I left the carved circles in place. Next, I made 3 simple shelves to put the baskets on.  I just used some pre-cut pine strips, made a cleat for the shelf to sit on, then used a piece of pre-cut pine to trim out the […]

{Before & After}–cedar/blanket chest update

{Before & After}–cedar/blanket chest update

> I knew when I came across this little chest, I knew that it could be super cute with a little paint and some extra molding to balance out the chest.  I got some cheap 6 in pine board and wrapped that around the bottom to cover up those little stubby legs.  I also had to remove some little molding on the sides so I didn’t have gaps when I put on the molding – so those were removed, cut down and then put back on. Then I cleaned, primed and painted (ultra white by Valspar) Because this chest was so plain, I decided to add a little stenciled # for a little somthin’ somthin’.  I just cut the number with my cricut, traced it and then painted in the lines. I also love rope handles, so any chance I have to use them im gonna :) I had a […]

{Repurposed Headboard/Footboard}

{Repurposed Headboard/Footboard}

> I have seen tons of headboards turned benches out there and its been on my to-do list for about a year now.  I finally got around to it and I think it turned out pretty cute :) This is not a detailed tutorial – but you will get the gist.  I think that you just have to play around with it because every headboard/footboard is built different and this can be done all different ways.  Just make it up as you go along – that’s what I ALWAYS do!!! Before…I used the headboard and footboard The headboard wasn’t altered at all – just the footboard.  The footboard was used for the arm rests on my bench.  I could of also used the footboard for under the seat if I wanted a different look – it just would have a closed bottom and no arm rests – both ways would […]

{Before & After} – custom hutch re-finish

{Before & After} – custom hutch re-finish

> I recently finished up quite a transformation on a big hutch. The hutch before had very modern lines and light maple wood – and that wasnt going to work with how my client wanted it transformed. She sent me some pics of heavily distressed french inspired pieces – so we had to do something to “soften” up this piece of modern furniture. Before… I added some trim around the top and bottom part of the top hutch (its the lighter color of wood that i added) And then i added some braided rope trim around all the drawers I also added a piece of base molding around the bottom of the cabinet (sorry, forgot the before pic) After all my trim as added, i primed the entire piece with primer tinted to a dark brown so i could see dark when i distressed it.  Then i had planned on […]

{before & after} – beach inspired table

{before & after} – beach inspired table

> Another quick before & after.  This all wood table had super simple lines and just looked like it needed a beachy makeover :) Before… After…   I painted it bright white and then added some big fat stripes in SW comfort gray.  After all was dry, i took my electric sander to it.   The chairs were also painted the same SW color. I love the worn away look of the paint – i think the white with the blue/green stripes, the heavily distressed paint and the wooden folding chairs give it that beachy look that i was going for.  Ahhh – i just wish i could really be on the beach right now …. :) I cant wait to “beachify” something else soon :)
