{Dresser turned entry table turned bench – are you following?!}

{Dresser turned entry table turned bench – are you following?!}

> You may remember my dresser turned entry table that i posted about here, and then i got a new entry table that i posted about here.  Well, i have taken the old entry table and turned it into a bench. When i was building the old entry table (in its former life it was a dresser), before i had added the legs i thought that it would be a pretty cute bench, but i didn’t need a bench.  Well, i still don’t need a bench and that’s why I’m selling it, but i still wanted to post it to show you guys  – and maybe you have an old dresser lying around that could be modified?  Plus it makes a very unique bench with a little storage.  I actually love the idea of having a bench at the end of my bed – somewhere to throw the pillows, and […]

{lazy girl’s guide to quick make-over AKA fab new little dresser}

{lazy girl’s guide to quick make-over AKA fab new little dresser}

>   Ok, i have to admit that this is a completely lazy – probably not the right way – super quick little dresser re-do.  But i would also have to admit that this is how i do most of my little re-do’s :)  And so far it’s worked for me! **Disclaimer!  If this piece was to get a lot of use/wear and tear then i would have done a little sanding to rough up the last layer of paint and i would have put a top coat of poly** One of the things that i was drawn to when i found this little dresser ($30 @ goodwill) was the shotty paint job and the many layers of paint that it already had.  You cant see in the pics, but there is brush marks all over – i LOVE that!  That is what, to me, add so much character, and […]

{laundry room updates}

{laundry room updates}

> After i posted about my laundry room here, i was looking at the pics and decided that it all looked good except for that metal clothes rod.  The rest of the room all flows together and that metal stuck out like a big fat sore thumb :) See! So, i decided to fix that little problem and all i spent was $20 for the rod – i love it when i already have stuff laying around that i can finally use :) I had some wood shelf brackets, drilled a big round hole for the rod.  I had to add a 2×4 behind the bracket to make it stick out a little further so the rod wouldn’t be recessed – otherwise i wouldn’t have been able to hang hangers, not good when your trying to get some laundry done…   I gave it all a coat of black paint […]

{slip-cover love}

{slip-cover love}

> I have had a serious love for white slip-covers for some time now…why i didn’t buy couches that were already slip covered 3 years ago when i bought these?  don’t know… But about a year 1/2 after we bought the couches the back cushions were starting to separate from the couch – these couches were not cheap.  Also about that same time i changed the paint colors in my family room/kitchen.  The couches still matched ok but they were crying out “cover me Sausha, cover me!!!” So i bought the fabric a year 1/2 ago and it sat there – all this time…  At first i was super pumped and ready to go, then i got intimidated – then i got busy with other stuff. So in January my brother started the sofa for me (he used to re-upholster furniture), then he got busy and wasn’t able to finish […]

Dresser turned…….?????

Dresser turned…….?????

>   Not exactly sure what to call my “little-dresser-turned-entry-way-table-thing”  I bought it a while ago @ goodwill for about $35.  It was pretty cute as it was (almost as is – just a coat of paint) but i thought for my entry way i didn’t want it to look like a dresser. So i chopped the bottom drawer off with just a hand saw, moved the bottom piece of molding up and then added some old table legs that were also cut down.  Repainted the whole thing and added some new handles. Sorry not the best before pic, i forgot to take a “true” before and this was from a cell phone.   You should know that the top and sides were laminate and you can totally paint laminate – i know a lot of people that are skeered – DONT BE!!! Normally i don’t sand anything before i […]

{Lamp re-vamp – (hey that rhymes!)}

{Lamp re-vamp – (hey that rhymes!)}

Sorry i have been MIA this last week, kids are back to dance and soccer 4 nights a week + saturdays, and husband is still in iraq (coming home in May!) so i haven’t had a lot of extra time.  I do have a couple of fun projects that i started this week though – a framed mirror tutorial coming soon :) I did manage to get this lamp done this week.  I bought it @ the Salvation Army for $10 –  for both the shade and base.  The pink lamp shade was pretty cute but didn’t work for the room.  Before… I took off all the pink fabric and covered it in white cotton…   I made simple fabric flowers with the same white cotton and hot glued them on the lamp, here and there… I put it in my kids bathroom, the one that i just recently re-did […]

{I promised and i delivered!!!}

{I promised and i delivered!!!}

  One project down, 999,324 to go…. This was a super easy fix to a boring plain jewelry box.  I picked up this little chunk of a box for $10 @ goodwill – good bones but the color just wasn’t working for me.  All i did was paint her white – gave her a good sanding and a new place to live – i am just cool like that ;) I’ve had a couple of questions about how i distress my furniture and this is my tool of choice…..a 60 grit sand block…oh yeah… I almost never pre-sand anything – i have in the past and have learned that it really doesn’t make a difference.  Then i just paint with regular good ol’ latex paint – i prefer valspar from lowes.  This time i just did 2 coats of white paint with a brush and then sanded all the edges.  […]
