My new farm style table w/mismatched chairs!

So this was my table long ago…When we bought this house almost 9 years ago, we bought mostly all new furniture and everything was black.  Slowly i started figuring out my style and doing things to my space to change it up so it would better reflect how i wanted my space to look.  One of those things was giving this big black table a makeover. I liked spaces that were light and bright.  The black counter height table was heavy and dark and wasn’t the look i liked anymore.  So i changed it. I wanted more of a farmhouse look, so i painted the table white and replaced the top with a new top made from new lumber.  While it made the table so much better and my space so much brighter and more my current style – it was still a counter height table.  I learned that i […]

My table re-do with new wood top!!

Sweet Pickins - using steel wool to stain wood

Oh – you guys, i am SO excited to show you my transformed table!  I love it so much and after wanting to make the change for a couple years, am so glad i finally did it! It was a fairly easy re-do with a big impact, i dont know why i waited so long! Anyways – its done now :) This is the last pic i took of my table.  It was a good decent table that wasnt exactly cheap so i just didnt want to get rid of it, plus i really like the lines of the chairs.  But what i hated so much besides it being black, was the table top.  It had all these lines in it to mimic wood planks and trying to keep it clean (on top of being black) was a nightmare. Plus the black was so heavy and just didnt flow with […]

{How to easily customize builder cabinets}

We have pretty much wrapped up the bathroom finishing, so now we are focusing on the basement kitchen/bar. Before we started on this process, we had a couple bids for custom cabinets.  Super pricey for just the 6 cabinets that we needed.  We did a little measuring and it turned out that all of our cabinets were actually stock cabinets and we could easily purchase them @ home depot or lowes (we ended up going with home depot).  I did have to paint the cabinets to get the color that i wanted, but it was worth it to save the $1000.  I will work on a post to show the before/after of the cabinets. There are of course lots of ways to easily customize builder cabinets and one of the easiest is to add molding.  In this case, we decided to add base molding instead of a traditional toe kick. […]

{Decisions, Decisions} – counter top choices

We are in the homestretch of finishing up our basement bar/kitchen.  Yeah!! I have to pick a counter top for the bar downstairs and this is hard work!  Whatever i choose will set the tone for the bar and it needs to be right.  This is life changing people!  K – maybe i exaggerate a teensy bit, but it really will define how the bar feels!  The bar is big – 11ft long, so it will def be out there and be seen!  Plus the fact that whatever counter i choose will be lots of moola (im gonna throw up now) – it has to be the right the 1st time, there is no changing this down the road. (we decided to raise up the black cabinets to go all the way to the ceiling, another project to add to the list!) And just FYI – the stone that we are putting in is […]

{EAT} – letters from reclaimed lumber

Updated – these letters are now available for sale HERE!! Even before i started my plank wall that i posted about yesterday, i had a vision of what i wanted for the little diagonal wall.  It needed to be big, bold and make a statement!  And i think that my new EAT sign def does!  I love that its “In Your Face”, “POW“, “Look At Me“, “BOOYAH” – nothing subtle about this sign! I looked online for some inspiration pics, but the only EAT signs i found were small – cute, but small.  So, I needed to make my own.  Lucky for me, i have some old lumber that was given to me by my shop neighbors for FREE (i love getting old stuff like that!).  The wood is super chunky, old, perfectly gray and i have lots of it (and lots more projects planned for it). So, i found […]

house tour

santihome, hometour 223

> Well, my closet project that was supposed to get finished up today is not quite done – its all ready for paint so i will hopefully finish it up this week and post it soon.  But, this is a guest post that i did over @ Remodelaholic a couple weeks ago – check it out :) When Cassity asked me to part of her home tour I was so excited – my blog was so new at that time.  There is so much talent out there and this is truly an honor. I am going to show you the “main” part of my house.  The entry, family room, dining room and the kitchen.  These rooms are nearly done but I definitely have some things that I want to change up – especially after looking at them through a camera :) This is the outside of our house – we […]

jars 008

> My sis-in-law told me a couple days ago about these cute little white ceramic cookie jars @ Costco.  White and ceramic??  I must go and check them out.  Glad i did because they were super cute, and super cheap.  All 3 for $25.  Did i need them?…no…did i want them?…yes…did i buy them?…of course :) I had no idea what to do with them, but then i had a “moment” at work and thought that they could be super cute as new utensil holders.  Should i admit that i am not always thinking of work when i am @ work – shhhhh, don’t tell ;) Jars… Old holder…which i still love, i love the texture/naturalness of it Now…all lined up? Nah…i like it better a little messed up :)   What do you think?  The old one or the new ones?  I like both
