{Kdins’ Curtains}–painted stripes

> I have had lots of emails in the last week since being on the Nate Show about my son Kdins curtains.  So I thought I would do a quick post about how I did them.  I will be back to show the rest of his room soon – its one of my favorite rooms – its so different from the rest of our house.  Its just a fun room. I wanted a fabric with big orange stripes, I wanted them on the cheap and I wanted them fast.  So, I bought the Merete curtains from Ikea for $20 in the bleached white color.  I also bought some bright orange fabric paint from hobby lobby for about $4/bottle.  I think it took me a total of 4 bottles. >  I have slowly replaced almost all the builder lights in my house with those that fit my style more and have a little more character – one of the last rooms being kdin’s room (my 11 year old son). I come across a ton of cheap chandeliers @ goodwill that have potential and a ton of 80’s brass crap with zero potential (at least for my style anyways).  So when i saw this cute brass fixture for $8 bucks i snagged it up.  It has all the lines of the old galvanized schoolhouse lights that i love.  I love anything galvanized….sigh…. Anyways, i painted it with a silver metallic spray paint (no primer, just a few light coats of the spray paint so it didn’t bubble).  After it was dry it was a little to “new” looking, so i took some American Tradition black glaze and wiped it over [...]

> Happy 4th of July everyone!!!  I hope everyone is having a good long weekend :) ***************** Long ago…back before by blogging days, i made this flag out of reclaimed wood for my sons room – the wood was on its way to the dump – very sad.  But, no fear!  I rescued it and made this cute flag – it still even has the old bird poop on it (the wood was from a bird coop) – is that gross, should i even be telling people this?  The poop is on the back side – i was just to lazy to scrub it off ;) So no tutorial – just some pics Each piece of wood is a 2×6 so the flag is pretty big and heavy.  I watered down all the paint and then sanded a lot of it off.  I love how the 3rd piece has a [...]
