Wowza – 2 days in a row with blog posts!  Feels good to have a little bit of extra time (and motivation) to get these done :)

I honestly cant even remember how long ago i built this hutch – its been years though.  I would have to say its been about 4 years now – i cant believe i haven’t posted about it!  And i looked high and low for pics of the build and sadly they are gone.  I remembered a few weeks ago it was because i used my old android phone and when that old phone broke, i lost all my pics as i hadn’t saved them and android didn’t have a cloud like my iPhone does.

Anyways – this is what i started with…when we built our house 10 years ago, i thought we were going to love this built in desk.  We could use it to stay organized, kids could do homework there.  Nah – it was a big fat junk collector!

So i ripped that sucker down, sold it and built this…

I was flipping through Facebook one day and came across these giant old windows that were for sale.  They were amazing!  They still had their original casings on them and i knew they would be perfect for a hutch.

Then – a while before that, i had gotten this old table for free from one of our neighbors.  We used it in our backyard for a bit, but it was falling apart and either needed to be rebuilt or used for something else.

Like i said, i don’t have any pics of the building process anymore, but i basically just took the table apart and used everything i could to rebuild it into one long table to fit the windows.  I had some old wood that had come off the back of a trailer bed, so i used that for the length of the table.  I also wanted a shelf on the bottom, so i cut the legs and used some more reclaimed wood for the shelf.

Then i basically just built a box around the window frames and added some shelves.  I painted the back with Sweet Pickins Milk Paint in Pantry Door (we didn’t have that color at the time, but its the same color) – i love the green against all my white dishes!  The frame of the windows and the table legs/wood were all just left their original finishes.

And how cute are those handles!  I found those at Hobby Lobby.  Wreath gets changed out normally for the seasons – the one i have on there now is from Michael’s.

I love how the hutch fills up the whole wall and makes the space look bigger than when the desk was there.  This thing is huge!  Its very deceiving in pics – its about 8 ft tall and 7 ft wide – tons and tons of storage!

It made the most perfect spot to store all my old milk cans!

Getting so close to my house being “done” – i still have a few bigger projects to do like this railing and i need to decide on something to go on the wall in the stairwell.

My favorite view in the house!

Be back soon with that post on cutting down the church pew!
